Bio: Montenegro was ruled for centuries by the Turkish Ottoman Empire and later by Communist  Yugoslavia after World War 2.  After the Communist Era ended in 1991 with the break up of Yugoslavia, Montenegro's economy and government were in disarray.  The years following saw Montenegrins picking up the pieces, leading to Montenegro recently declaring independence from Serbia in 2006.  Now, with a rapidly growing tourism industry, Montenegro is striving hard to become the newest addition to the European Union.
